Anne Giarrante

Welcome Back Fearn Families and Community,

On behalf of the Fearn staff I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Fearn students and their families. The 2009-2010 school year will bring exciting opportunities for learning and success. The staff at Fearn is dedicated to providing each child with the best education within a caring environment. We believe that education is one of the most precious gifts you can give a child.

The Fearn mission statement states that we will provide a challenging, academic, nurturing, social, and professional learning environment with high expectations for learner success. The staff has taken on several initiatives to maintain this focus and ensure student success. We will continue to assist students in social development through our PBIS expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Support. We are committed to using this systematic approach in order to maintain a safe and positive learning environment. We are continuing to provide research based academic interventions to struggling learners as well as enriching our students who continue to meet and exceed expectations. Our overall goal is to ensure that students show continual growth both academically and socially.

We also believe that a partnership between students, staff, families and the community will ensure that our children are successful and develop a love of learning. This year the staff will be working towards creating a more dynamic Professional Learning Community. Through a Professional Learning Community, we hope that all students and their families feel connected both academically and emotionally to the Fearn community. The Fearn staff is grateful for our PTA and their support of assisting us in maintaining a positive learning environment for our students. I am continually impressed with the support from our volunteers and appreciate the dedication they have for Fearn students. We also will continue to partner with the Illinois Math and Science Academy (IMSA) in offering the E2K+ program to a group of fourth and fifth grade students. The E2K+ program is an after school program that provides students with thematic based enrichment activities in the areas of Math and Science.

I personally want to welcome all new and returning families to Fearn. I am looking forward to working with each child and their family this school year. Please stop in or call me if you have any questions or concerns. A quote I try to live by is “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step”. As educators and parents, we must remember the impact we make on the lives of children by the “small” things we do each day! Our continual encouragement, praise, and understanding will assist our children in being the best that they can be!

Sincerely,

Anne Giarrante, Principal
