Miss Lucia Goodwin was born in Aurora and graduated from West Aurora High School in 1880. After high school she graduated from Leland Stanford University. She then began her teaching career in Aurora at the future Lincoln School formerly the South Lake Street School. Eventually she came to West Aurora High School to begin her career as a math teacher. There she remained until her retirement in 1936.
“Hundreds of college students, especially those who took engineering and scientific courses, have been grateful to Miss Goodwin for the educational foundation she gave them.” It has been the policy of the Board of Education to name elementary schools after educators who served boys and girls in District 129.
After School Opportunities
SS Friendship – weekly tutorial sessions where senior citizens help 1st and 2nd graders
Homework Club – tutorial program for grades 4 and 5
K-Kids – Leadership and community service program sponsored by Kiwanis Club
Family Reading Night – monthly “theme” nights involving community members and teachers reading books to students
Sports Action – Monthly program for 4th and 5th graders
Fox Valley Park District – after school throughout the year
Student Council/Character Counts Program
Foreign Language – outside organization offering Spanish classes to all grade levels.
