Eric Benson
Welcome Back Goodwin Families and Friends,
I would like to welcome you to a new and exciting 2009-2010 school year. I am extremely honored to be the principal for Lucia Goodwin School. “Together Everyone Achieves More!” Our Goodwin Eagles’ staff will move together towards developing students that look to soar to new heights academically and socially each and everyday. Together, with staff and our families we will continue to make a safe, exciting and nurturing environment in which our students can learn.
This is my fourth year working for West Aurora School District #129. During my first two years in the district I had served as a teacher/coach and Dean of Students at West Aurora High School. While at West Aurora High School, I completed my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Aurora University. Before joining the West Aurora team, I worked at St. Joseph High School in Westchester, IL. At St. Joseph High School I had the opportunity to serve as a teacher, Head Football Coach and Assistant Principal during my time there. I began my teaching career in DeKalb, IL; where I taught middle school physical education and also coached. Before starting my teaching career I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Northern Illinois University.
My wife Teri and three and a half year old son Dominic are very happy to be members of the Goodwin family. We also have two dogs Morgan (Black Lab/Border Collie) and Apple Core(Retired Greyhound) and we reside in Yorkville.
This year at Goodwin School we continue to reach new heights and look to incorporate new programs and district initiatives. As a school we will continue to incorporate PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) throughout our school. PBIS is s systematic approach to preventing and responding to classroom and school discipline problems. PBIS creates and maintains a safe learning environment for students to learn and teachers to teach. All EAGLES will demonstrate the GOODWIN PR3IDE daily, through RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and the RIGHT ATTITUDE. As a district we will also be incorporating a new writing curriculum. A district committee of representatives from all educational levels have worked incredibly hard over the past few years to prepare the entire district for this curriculum shift; we are excited to see the fruits of their labor in each and every writing lesson.
Again, I would like express my gratitude to all the members of the Goodwin Family. I also would like to express the importance of parent participation in their child’s education. We greatly appreciate your feedback and support. Please don’t hesitate to contact me this year if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Eric M. Benson, Principal
