Cindy Larry

Welcome to Nancy Hill Elementary School’s website, home of the Hawks! Hill School opened its doors in 1889 and has a solid tradition of educating children for more than 100 years. We are dedicated to providing our students a rigorous academic curriculum. I am honored to begin my 10th year as Principal and 14th year in District 129. We have an exceptional highly qualified staff that values the educational process. On a daily basis our teachers implement research based instruction while utilizing best practices. As our students continue to academically improve, our staff continues to work on professional growth activities to meet the changing needs of our students.
Accountability, dedication and knowledge for us are important factors for student success. We continually set high standards for ourselves, our parents and our students as we expect them to achieve and encompass adequate yearly progress. It is crucial that each and every staff member, parent, student, community member and community agency commit and be involved in the plan of achievement for our children.
As we address our school improvement agenda, we will:
-
Engage in professional development
-
Continue to reflect on our classroom teaching practices and dialogue with one another as we work to improve reading and math achievement
-
Analyze data
-
Offer supplemental reading instruction in primary and intermediate grade levels utilizing Title 1 funding and support staff.
-
Continue to be a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) school in which we have aligned high behavioral and procedural expectations for all.
-
Engage in our third year as a Reading First School with initiatives that support a 90 minute uninterrupted reading block with ongoing progress monitoring of student achievement
-
Continue to develop partnerships with community resources to support academic learning (volunteers, tutors, mentors, etc.).
-
Implement Waterford Early Reading Technology Program.
-
Offer extended day instructional support to identified students.
-
Promote parent involvement
-
Extend learning opportunities outside of the classroom to assist with supporting the curriculum and increasing background knowledge.
-
Offer supplemental school activities through partnerships with community agencies (City of Aurora Youth Services dept., Luigi’s, People for Childcare, Junior Achievement and Fox Valley Park District.
We welcome community involvement and strongly encourage parents to join our school improvement or literacy team. If you are interested in becoming involved or would like more information, please contact us at school.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with our families, students and community. We continue to address our challenges and remain committed, motivated and encouraged as a faculty working to provide what’s best for children. We welcome you and open our doors here at Hill inviting you to visit a great place to learn and grow socially and academically!
Respectfully,
Cindy Larry
