DISTrict 129 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS COMPETE IN MATH BOWL

Future engineers and math teachers went head to head Tuesday, April 18 in the District 129 Math Bowl for elementary students. Fearn fifth-grader David Hoch and McCleery fourth-grader Miranda Aldrich finished first district wide at their grade levels. The Freeman fifth-grade and the Hill fourth-grade teams also finished first district wide.

WEST HIGH BEST IN BUSINESS COMPETITION

West Aurora High School took first place overall at the Business Competition Day on April 19 at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove.

Led by Business Department teachers Gwendolyn Wells and Paul Mayer, 17 West students competed in a variety of business events against 12 other schools.

Nine West students won Waubonsee scholarships and the high school won a free two-year scholarship to be awarded to a student of its choice.

Categories and West student winners are: Business Law, first, Miles Porter; Basic Economics, third, Julian Marion; Marketing, third, Brian Zerfas; Proofreading and Editing, fourth, Jon Stanciu; Creating a Web Page, third, Felipe Murguia and fifth, Justin Drew; General Business, first, Aendri Decker; Business Math, first, Ryan LeBeau and second, Matt Etter; Office Procedure, third, Erica Gonzales; and Spreadsheet, first, Robert Beavers.

In addition, the following students received honorable mention for their placement in the all-school spelling bee: sixth Crystal Carter and eighth Joey Marino.

Other participating schools were: Aurora East, Fox Valley Career Center, Indian Valley Vocational Center, Kaneland, Newark, Oswego, Plano, Rosary, Sandwich, Somonauk, Waubonsie Valley and Yorkville.


CATS AND DOGS


In April, Greenman's youngest  students  show that they, too, are capable of putting on a play about cats in this case Cats and Dogs.
