JEFFERSON Teacher receives doctorate

 

 

 

Cheryl Rosentreter, a reading facilitator at Jefferson Middle School, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on March 23. Her dissertation is titled A Study of Social Capital and the Development of At-Risk Behaviors of Young Adults in Kane County, Illinois Drug Court. This was completed through Aurora University. Her chair was Dr. Joan Fee.

 

 

 


TWO TO LEAD TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT JULY 1

The Board of Education voted on May 1 to make Mark Engen the new district transportation director and Lynn Head the assistant transportation director beginning July 1.

Engen is currently the districts energy manager. Head has been a Transportation Department office professional and dispatcher. The Transportation Department operates and maintains a fleet of approximately 50 school buses out of a transportation center at 200 Alder St., North Aurora.

Engen has a bachelors degree in business and psychology from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. Before joining the district last year, he was a general manager at Jensen Plating Works, Inc. in Chicago. He is married to Betty Engen, who is the librarian at Freeman Elementary School. A daughter attends West Aurora High School and two other children are West graduates. Outside of work, Engen officiates swim meets and was the director of the 2005 Illinois YMCA Swim Meet involving more than 3,000 people.

Head is a West High graduate and has a bachelors degree in elementary education from Illinois State University in Bloomington. Before joining the Transportation Department, she was a teaching assistant and an operations and sales manager for a reading services company.

Three students received recognition after 582 people voted online for the best Earth Week poster, a contest taken on by the West High Computer Art 2 class at West High taught by Brandi Martin-Mancini. The winners and prizes were:

1st Place: Lisa Lamont, Senior - $100 Gift Card
2nd Place: Ryan Vivoli, Senior - $50 Gift Card
3rd Place: William Klug, Sophomore - $25 Gift Card
