Old comrades meet again at Quad County Urban League
District
129 school bus drivers
for join Aurora Police Chief William Powell (center, front) April
5 to celebrate his life-time achievement award from the Quad County Urban
League. Powell had been a part-time District 129 bus driver for more than a
dozen years. Joining him are (front row) Jody Simmons, Barb Cobb and Lori
Powell; (middle row) Sue Ellen Jornd, Alberta Cervantes, Carmelita Jaquez,
Gay Lawrence; and (back row) Laurel Stewart, Patricia Whitehead, Dianne
Bartlett, Harvey Block, Micki Zacherias, Karen Carlson, Pam Fidis, Truman
Hazelwood, Sue Johnson and Dorothy Smith.

On hand were several students and staff from the school district, including
student Ebony Hearon who sang at the ceremony.

Superintendent Jim Rydland (rigfht) and District 131 Superintendent Michael
Radakovich enjoyed each others company.
WEST HIGH PRESENTS SPRING
CHORAL CONCERT

West Aurora High School choruses presented their spring concert on April 20.
Varsity Singers, Girls Glee, Treble Choir, Mixed Ensemble, STUDyhall,
Madrigal Singers, Girls Chorus and A Cappella presented a variety of music,
from Bach to Queen!
The theme for the evening was how music functions in various contexts.
Students demonstrated examples of music that represent areas in which they
have grown personally throughout the year. Soloists for the evening included
Briana Aviles, Amanda Dominguez and Elizabeth Gust. The choruses are
directed by Meg Papadolias and Jonathan McLear.

Jewel STUDENTS PLANT DEDICATED Tree
With the assistance of a representative from Com Ed, two seventh-grade
science classes at Jewel Middle School on April 28 helped plant a white oak
donated by Com Ed on school grounds.
