Greenman pupils honor veterans with performance

Greenman Elementary Schools Drama Club performs Song of America on Dec. 7 to honor those who have served in the military and sacrificed for Americas freedoms

Fearn Teacher Recognized

for Excellence

 

Fearn Elementary School teacher Darrell Maskell has been named teacher of the year in a contest sponsored by  

Positive Promotions. Fearn received a $500 check that will purchase Accelerated Readers for the third grade. Maskell teaches social studies and science to high-ability students after school.  He integrates technology by having students create Power Point presentations on Native American tribes and river systems.  Maskell also coaches basketball.

Aid Mutual Ground Family

The Fearn PTA adopted for the holidays a large family from Mutual Ground, a shelter in Aurora for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. At right, fourth-grade students on Dec. 13 carry presents to a waiting van, which delivered them to the family.

 


 

Herget Student Wins Civic Youth Award

Cheyanna Strusz, a Herget Middle School student and North Aurora Leo Club leader, received a Ted Brattin Civic Youth Award Dec. 11 at the 37th annual Pearl Harbor Luncheon at Aurora University.

The award honors youths who display citizenship, service and leadership and is named after Brattin, a former Aurora businessman.

Strusz received recognition for volunteering at North Aurora Mother's Club activities and Breakfast with Santa. She also helped collect money for Lions Club Candy Days, took part in Fox River cleanup projects, participated in school-wide food drives and assisted at the Schneider Elementary School Fun Fair.  

North Aurora Lions sponsor the North Aurora Leo Club.
