Meet The Principal

Dear Greenman students, families and stakeholders,

On behalf of the Greenman faculty, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome you to the 2009-2010 school year. From the time the students enter our doors in August until they exit in late May, we are committed to maintaining an environment where all students can thrive academically and socially. Our goal is to provide Greenman students with the skills necessary to fulfill the mission of West Aurora School District 129. Focusing on the key components of Vision 129 will enable us to help all students reach their full potential.

Our staff has taken on several initiatives in an attempt to improve student achievement. Greenman has implemented the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support program. This program is a systematic behavior plan that provides students with clearly established expectations and outlines a plan to respond to school and classroom discipline problems. Furthermore, PBIS allows teachers and support staff to recognize positive student behavior at a building wide level. We also offer our students a 90 minute uninterrupted reading block and a 60 minute math block along with a newly developed interventions block that utilizes support staff and focuses on student learning.

Additionally, we are dedicated to building collaborative relationships with the community. Greenman students will continue to participate in programs like Junior Achievement, which invites professionals in our community to teach business related lessons. We are also proud to announce the arrival of the E2K+ program. This program is a partnership with the Illinois Math and Science Academy that focuses on discovery based thematic learning. Students who participate in this program will be offered curricular extensions that tie into state standards and promote student achievement. We are also grateful that the Parent Teacher Association supports our students’ academic and social development and look forward to continuing a prosperous relationship.

Improved student learning and achievement is at the forefront of our decision making process. We are committed to providing students with the tools and skills necessary to become positive contributing members of our communities. Greenman Elementary will continue to stress the importance of positive character development by embracing the values of honesty, respect, and optimism.

I look forward to serving the Greenman community and value any and all feedback related to maximizing student achievement. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Nick Baughman, Principal
