Book Check out and Return

Library books may be checked out by students:

  • Weekly when your class visits the LMC
  • During school hours when a teacher gives class time.
  • If there are no overdue books on your record.

   Library books may be returned

  • At the Book Return at the Circulation Desk at the beginning of each school day.
  • -- We check in books once a day.  If books are returned after 9:00am, they are checked in the following day.

 When Checking out Books

  • When browsing, use a shelf marker to hold the book’s place on the shelf until you are sure you have found the books that you want.
  • After making your selection, go to the circulation desk to have your books stamped with the due date and scanned with the barcode reader.

 Length of Checkout Time

All library materials are checked out for two weeks with the following exceptions:

  • Current Holiday books are put on a 3 day check out.
  • New encyclopedias, atlases, and dictionaries are to remain in the LMC unless given special permission by Mrs. Jones.
  • Older reference materials and magazines may be checked out for 3 days.
  • Award Nominees (Monarch & Caudill) will have limited checkout time.

All library books and materials borrowed must be returned before or on the date due.  If you are absent, books are due on the first day you return.  Books may be renewed at the circulation desk.  You will then be allowed to keep it for two more weeks.

Number of Items Allowed at a Time

  •  Kindergartners may checkout 1 book at a time
  • First grade students may checkout 2 books at a time.
  • Students in grades 2-5 may have 3 items out at a time.

 Lost and Damaged Books

If books, magazines, etc. are lost or damaged, the patron will be expected to pay the replacement cost for the lost or damaged materials.

 LMC Behavior

 We expect all LMC patrons:

  • to be respectful
  • to use walking feet and quiet voices - especially if there are other classes in the LMC
  • to use shelf markers when searching for books
  • to help keep our LMC neat and clean
  • to ask for help if needed
  • to have a fun, positive experience every time
