You Can Make a Difference!

You have a major influence on your child when it comes to literacy, and more specifically, reading!  The language activities and games you play, the environment you create, and the attitude towards reading you promote, all contribute significantly to how your child develops as a reader.  I ask that you think about these four keys to your child's literacy success.  Find time to incorporate them into your household each day to help your child become all that he or she can be.

Key 1:  Opportunities to talk

Key 2:  Experiences with stories (both oral and written)

Key 3:  Interaction between reader and listener during stories

Key 4:  Opportunities to draw and write

Think about what you already do.  Give yourself a pat on the back; you are making a difference for your child.  Now, what do you need to work on?  Remember, if you consider language, reading and books important, your child will too!
