1.      Pocket folder for holding and organizing current homework and handouts

3.      Spiral notebook for long term note taking of class discussions and examples

Course Information:

The 8th grade Pre-Algebra classes and Algebra class will be taught with the above mentioned books will be taught covering all of the School District 129’s established Priority Learning Targets for these specific classes. These Priority Learning Targets can be viewed from District 129’s website (http://www.sd129.org/plt/secondary_plt.html).

Quarter Grades will be determined by:

1.      Tests/Quizzes
2.      Daily Class grade: Daily Homework, Preparedness for class, Effort, Participation, Attitude
3.      Possible Long Term Assignment/Project

The final end of year grade in math will be determined by the average of the four quarter letter grades. If a student has quarter letter grades of something like two B’s and two C’s, then their overall math score average for the entire school year will determine if they get a final grade of a B or a C.

Math Score Average Grading Scale:

                                    100% - 90% = A
                                    90% - 80%   = B
                                    80% - 70%   = C
                                    70% - 60%   = D
                                    60% - 0%     = F

Homework Expectations:

You can expect to get homework assignments in this class almost every day. All assignments are due at the start of the class!  LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. If absent, be sure to turn in the assignment that was due and make up any missed work which then needs to be turned in as well. You are responsible for finding out what homework you missed and any note taking you missed. Borrow a fellow classmate’s notebook to make up any notes you missed. Students are expected to write down what the daily math assignments are which are due for that day in their school planner. The school office will also have a hard copy of what are the math assignments which I assigned each day!

Each regular daily class grade is worth 10 points. All assignments are to be done on loose-leaf paper with the required heading in pen in the upper right hand corner! Any homework papers not meeting this requirement or with pieces ripped out of the paper heading will not be accepted and result in a zero for the daily class grade! The required heading in the upper right hand corner must have the student’s first and last name, which period the student is in math, and the page and problem numbers assigned. Also assignments which are not complete or are missing the necessary work for the problems will also result in a zero for the daily class grade. A student could also lose those 10 points for the daily class grade by not being on time for class, by not bringing required supplies such as their math book, not paying attention, not participating, sleeping in class, or any misbehavior in class.

Classroom Expectations:

1.)       Be in your seat when the bell rings! DO NOT BE LATE TO CLASS! Each tardy could result in an office detention. Students are not to leave their seats during class without permission.

2.)       LOCKER PASSES WILL NOT BE GIVEN! Come to class each day prepared with the necessary materials: math book, pen and mechanical pencil, math pocket folder, math spiral notebook, loose-leaf paper, calculator, and assignment planner.

3.)       Use the restroom during the passing period. If a student thinks they may be late to class, come to class first and ask the teacher before the bell rings if you may go to the restroom. Once the tardy bell has rung students will not be excused to use the restroom during the 44-minute class period except for an extreme emergency.

4.)       Keep all candy, gum, food, and drinks out of the classroom.

5.)       Remain respectful and quiet during lessons and individual study and help time so all students have an opportunity to learn. Being respectful and quiet includes paying attention, not talking out of turn, raising their hand and waiting to be called on to speak, not drumming and tapping, not hiding their hands below the desk, not writing or passing notes, and doing homework during and only during designated times.

6.)   Any student involved in any sort of cheating will receive no credit

for the test or assignment in question and will also be written

up on an office discipline referral..
