Meet The PrincipalWelcome to the 2009-2010 school year!  It is an honor to be the principal of Hill School and I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with wonderful families, an awesome staff, students and our community. I strongly believe that each child is a unique individual that should have the opportunity to embark on an exciting, supportive yet challenging educational journey.

Hill School opened its doors in 1889 and has a solid tradition of educating children for more than 100 years.   We are dedicated to providing our students a rigorous academic curriculum.   We have an exceptional highly qualified staff that values the educational process of working with children and seeing them succeed.  On a daily basis our teachers implement research based instruction while utilizing best practices.

Accountability, dedication and knowledge for us are important factors for student success.  We continually set high standards for ourselves, our parents and our students as we work on improving.     It is crucial that each and every staff member, parent, student, community member and community agency contribute to the team in the plan of achievement for our children.

Our school improvement agenda includes engagement in ongoing staff professional development, reflections on our classroom teaching practices which continues to have a ninety minute uninterrupted reading block, analyzing data utilizing a diagnostic process that involves ongoing dialogue, utilizing result indicators to progress monitor as we work to improve reading, writing and math achievement.  We look forward to implementation of the reading intervention model to be used in District 129.  We have to make every effort to meet students at their academic level and provide differentiated instruction to help each student progress to his or her own learning potential.

We have a continued commitment as a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) school in which we have aligned high behavioral and procedural expectations.

We continue to evaluate and address our challenges as we remain committed, motivated and encouraged as a faculty working to provide what’s best for children.  I am proud to be a part of the Hill School family; it’s a great place to grow socially and academically!

Respectfully,

Cindy Larry, Principal
