Gary D. Jewel Middle School is a 6th, 7th and 8th grade school that was built on 1998. It has a population of about 800+ students. There are now four middle schools in West Aurora District #129 with a total about 10,000 students. The student population at Jewel Middle School is about 56% Caucasian, 20% African-American, 20% Hispanic and 4% Asian. About 95% of our students qualify for bussing to and from school.
We serve students from two communities, The Village of North Aurora and the City of Aurora. In recent years the village of North Aurora has experienced a transformation from a rural agricultural base, to a residential growth based community that has seen its population balloon from 5,205 in 1989 to 6,010 in 1990, to 7,620 in a 1995 special census, to an anticipated 10,000+ count in the current 2000 census. The city of Aurora has a population of 120,000 and is one of the largest urban cities in the state of Illinois.
