NEAL ORMOND RECEIVES TENNIS COACH AWARD

Neal Ormond, assistant girl’s tennis coach at West Aurora High School, will be honored with the David Youngvorst Girl’s Assistant Tennis Coach of the Year award on Friday, Jan. 28. The annual award is bestowed by the Illinois High School Tennis Coach’s Association. Ormond was nominated by girl’s tennis head coach Brian Brooks. Mike Terry, head of the award committee, called Ormond an extraordinary candidate for the award, which is given based on contributions to the team and its community. Terry especially sited the “meticulous way he keeps track of statistics for the team and the media” and the enormous contributions Ormond has made to West Aurora.

In addition to coaching, Ormond is vice president of the West Aurora School Board and the “voice of the Blackhawks” in broadcasting. He was a co-founder of the Blackhawk Boosters and the West Aurora Alumni Association. Ormond is a member of the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame and the West Aurora Sports Hall of Fame. Ormond’s talent for tennis goes way back - he was captain of the 1958 West High boy’s tennis team.
