West Aurora Community Science Night will be
held from 6 - 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10 at West Aurora High School in the
cafeteria. Scheduled activities include "IMSA on Wheels" at 6:30 p.m., WLS TV
weatherman, Phil Swartz, in ongoing presentations, and "Mr. Wizard" (aka Jim
Merk) giving a performance at a time to be determined. Morton Arboretum,
University of Illinois Extension, Red Oaks Nature Center, Delta Education
(FOSS), SciTech, and Phillips Park Zoo will provide hands on displays and
information.
There are two contests planned for all ages - Egg Drop (students need to bring a
crate created to hold an egg) and Balloon Speeder, a contest led by Aurora
University graduate education students. More information on the contests is
available at the elementary schools.
In addition, West Aurora schools will be presenting student science fair work -
Fearn, Freeman Partnership, Greenman and Hill Elementary Schools are scheduled
to participate. The community science event is free to all comers. For more
