WEST HIGH DECA STUDENTS WIN IN REGIONAL COMPETITION

Several students from West Aurora High School’s DECA, a marketing and management student organization, fared well at regional DECA competition on Jan. 24 at Charlestown Mall.

Luis Sifuentes finished first in Apparel and Accessories, Nissa McCarthy finished second in Sales Demonstration and Matt Bius finished third in Quick Serve Restaurant.

Seven additional students finished in the top 10 of their events: Savannah Meyers and Miranda Rodriguez in Apparel and Accessories, Noel Cotts in Vehicles and Petroleum Marketing, Brian Zerfas in Retail Merchandising Management, Jeremy Gareski in Restaurant Marketing and Alexis Reeves and Mark Logan in Sales Demonstration.

Students are now preparing for the next level of competition, DECA’s State Career Development Conference, March 2-4 in Decatur. At this level of competition students will present advertising and promotional plans, marketing research plans, and entrepreneurial activities they have been working on this school year. Students will also have the opportunity to compete in competency-based events, team events, and sales demonstrations.

Sifuentes, one of DECA’s state officers, will be directly involved in hosting this year’s competition.
