DIST. 129 TO HOLD PREKINDERGARTEN READINESS SCREENINGS
School Dist. 129 this spring will screen children, ages three and four, for vision, hearing and school readiness. Among other things, the screenings help determine whether district children are eligible for the fall prekindergarten at-risk classes beginning Aug. 28 at Todd Early Learning Center.
No appointments are necessary for Early Bird screening. Parents may bring their children to any of the following Aurora sites:
- Nicholson School, 649 N. Main St., from 8:30-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 19;
- Smith, 1332 Robinwood Drive, from 8:30-10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 20;
- McCleery, 1002 Illinois Ave., from 3-6 p.m., Thursday, April 20;
- Greenman, 729 W. Galena Blvd., from 8:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 2;
- Freeman, 153 Randall Road, from 3-6 p.m., Thursday, May 11.
Following Early Bird Screening, children with mild readiness delays will be scheduled for a readiness screening. This will determine if they are eligible for The Parent and Child Readiness Program at Todd Early Childhood Center, a program for three- and four-years-olds with emphasis on child development and parent participation.
Children with suspected development delays may be eligible for special preschool services. These children will be scheduled for an assessment clinic at Hope Wall School. This assessment will determine if they are eligible for the Child Development Program, which offers classes at Hope Wall School or Todd Early Childhood Center for children having significant development delays.
Children who show no readiness or developmental delays will not be eligible for a public school pre-K classroom program.
Additional Early Bird Screenings are held throughout the school year. For information call Hope Wall School at 630-301-5008.
