VISIT BY MEDIEVAL KNIGHTS AT HERGET

VISIT BY MEDIEVAL KNIGHTS SPURS INTEREST IN READING AT HERGET
Herget Middle School sixth-graders enjoy the rollicking world of medieval
knights April 20, during a program designed to improve
reading by connecting books with real-world experiences.
Alex Jaquez, a Herget Middle School sixth-grader, tries on chainmail armor worn by knights in the Middle Ages. From this April 20 assembly, students will make strong connections and images in reading class where they will read novels such as “Dove and Sword,” about Joan of Arc, or “Door in the Wall,” about a teenage squire.
Herget Middle School student Emily Saul carries a shield designed to parry sword strikes during the Middle Ages. This experience on April 20 is part of a reading enhancement project funded by the Foundation for West Aurora Schools.
