TEN CANDIDATES FILE FOR DISTRICT 129 SCHOOL BOARD RACE
Ten candidates have filed for four seats on the seven-member Board of Education, which will be filled at the April 17 election. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms, expiring in April of 2011. The following District 129 citizens have declared their candidacy (in ballot order): Allan Rhea, William Spaeth, Robert Littler, Carl Franco, Allyson “Sonni” Herget, John Aguilar, Scott Farnum, Angela Smith, Ann Bachman-Thomas, and James Toynton.
To be eligible to serve, a school board member must be, on the date of election, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, a registered voter, and a resident of the State of Illinois and School District 129 for at least one year immediately preceding the election. The school board election is nonpartisan, and board candidates do not run under political party affiliation. Candidates should be aware of financial conflict-of-interest prohibitions and exceptions set forth in state law.
Illinois law requires that any candidate seeking election to a board of education must file:
• Nominating petitions bearing the signatures of at least 50 citizens who are registered to vote in the school district, with a notarized signature of the petition circulator;
• A statement of candidacy;
• A receipt from the County Clerk showing that the candidate has filed a Statement of Economic Interests for calendar year 2007.
The fourth form – a loyalty oath – is optional. A candidate may file it or not.
