Jefferson Middle School is inviting the public to attend its annual Senior Citizen Breakfast and Band Concert at 9:15 a.m., Friday, April 20, at the school, 1151 Plum St. Aurora. Interested individuals should call 630-301-5009 to reserve a seat.

Last year approximately 275 guests attended the breakfast and band concert, which is a service project for the band students.

Between 80-100 Jefferson seventh- and eighth-grade band students prepare a special musical program for this annual event.  In addition, approximately 25 sixth-grade band students train as greeters and workers.  PTA parents assist with decorating, food preparation and serving.

“This event provides a positive link between the community and schools,” says Band Director Lila Fagan.  “Students learn to value senior citizens and treat them with respect.  The interaction among the students and seniors during the breakfast is amazing.”

She adds, “And the band students are able to perform before a truly appreciative audience.”
