Two West Aurora High School math teams placed 10th in the State Math Contest on April 28 at the University of Illinois, Champaign. The Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics sponsored the contest. Approximately 70 schools competed at the 4AA level.
Kate Butler, Matt Tigges, Andrew Moore, Alex Seymour, Steven Shoyer and Samantha Tyner comprised West’s 10th-place pre-calculus team. Kate Butler and Samantha Tyner made up the tenth-place oralist team. In addition, Elizabeth Peterson qualified for individual state competition in Algebra 2.
Out of 178 students who participated at the state level in West’s contest area, Kate Butler placed 18th; Elizabeth Peterson, 34th; Andrew Moore, 40th and Matt Tigges, Alex Seymour, Steven Shoyer and Samantha Tyner all tied for 66th.
