SUPERINTENDENT TO RECOMMEND THREE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS
Dist. 129 Supt. Jim Rydland is recommending that the Board of Education appoint three new assistant principals on Aug. 6. The recommendations are supported by the building principals of the three schools.
The three vacant positions are at West Aurora High School and Greenman and Hall elementary schools.
"The Board is aware of my proposed recommendations and supports their selection," says Rydland.
Dan Riggs would fill the West High position. He has been an assistant principal of Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn since 2002. He also has been a dean of students, social studies teacher and coach.
Riggs has a bachelor's degree in History/Social Science from Wheaton College and a master's of Education in School Administration from Northern Illinois University. He is enrolled in the Doctorate Program for Education Administration at NIU.
Riggs is a 1987 graduate of West High and his children attend Dist. 129 schools.
Pamela Rowe would fill the Greenman Elementary School position. She has been a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher at Gwendolyn Brooks Elementary School in Aurora since 1997. Prior to that, she taught in East Aurora public schools.
Rowe has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University and a master's in Educational Leadership from University of St. Francis. She has served as a teacher leader in numerous curriculum initiatives, including the Six Traits of Writing, Everyday Math, Guided Reading, Balanced Literacy and Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies.
David Russell would fill the Hall Elementary School position. He has been a first- and third-grade teacher at Greenman Elementary School since 2002. There he served at the team coach for the school-wide behavior management program. He also participated in the Reading First initiative.
Russell has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Teaching from Eastern Illinois University and a master's in Educational Leadership from Aurora University.
