Friday's West Aurora-Naperville Central football contest featured a pre-game 9-11 tribute to all local police and fire personnel. West Athletic Director Andy Lutzenkirchen organized the event.
Both teams formed a tunnel in front of the marching band for police and fire personnel to enter the field behind the Aurora Fire Department Color Guard. The West High A Capella Choir sang “God Bless America.”
Team members wore helmets with a decal showing the number 438 on an American flag, in memory of all the police, fire, and port police personnel who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
West High Broadcast Club students, supervised by teacher Steve Williams, produced a live webcast of the ceremony, which will be posted on the district Web site next week.
