Herget Middle School’s four-person MATHCOUNTS team of Nicole Tartaglia, Justin Brothers, Jovan Suvira and Natalie Cheng is advancing to the state competition after placing second at the regional competition in Plainfield.
Tartaglia was the highest scoring competitor at the competition and also was the overall winner of the countdown round of the competition. In addition, Herget students Michelle Guo and Eric O’Brien also advanced to the state competition, since they were the two highest placing individuals who were not already on one of the three teams advancing. Herget math teacher Chuck Linneman is the team advisor.
Led by the National Society of Professional Engineers, MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement. Its goal is to provide students with the foundation for success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.
