Fearn fourth-graders Molly McGrane and Declan Creaney and Goodwin fifth-grader Jaime Huerta each took first place in the recent Dist. 129 Math Bowl for fourth and fifth grades. In addition, Fearn took first place in the fourth-grade team competition and three schools tied for first in the fifth-grade competition -- McCleery, Schneider and Fearn.
The Dist. 129 Math Bowl is an annual elementary school math competition in which students compete as individuals and on school teams. Students are required to work through a set number of math problems in a set amount of time.
In the fourth grade team competition, Fearn’s first-place team members included Declan Creaney, Molly McGrane, Alex Yakisan, Karina Rodriguez, Sophia de Chaud, Jonathan Watkins, Jackson Morrill and Marceline Azem. Goodwin and Hill teams won second and third.
In the fifth grade team competition, Fearn’s first-place winners are Annie Wu, Ben Cuga, Gabe Phillips, Jillian Druzgala, Nick Gutierrez, Nousheen Mousavi-Pour, Roscoe Ludena and Nick Rodriguez. McCleery’s first-place winners are Brandon Alberto, Kai Malloe, Gina Jenkins, Brian Montellano, Abel Varela, Elmira Usmanova, Michel Arqueta and Santiago Barrios. Schneider’s first-place winners are Wyatt Enstrom, Jarod Gollwitzer, Kyle Licar, Louise Lima, Ashley Lundell, Jon Mickelson, Caleb Ritzheimer and Callie Saperston. Goodwin and Hill teams won second and third.
In the fourth grade individual competition, the second-place winner is McCleery’s Angel Rodriguez. The third-place winners are Goodwin’s Alyssa Mayhew, from, McCleery’s Diane Herrera and Fearn’s Alex Yakisan, Sophia deChaud and Karina Rodriguez.
In the fifth grade individual competition, second place winners are Schneider’s Jarod Gollwitzer and Louise Lima and McCleery’s Brandon Alberto. The third-place winners are Fearn’s Ben Cuga and Nousheen Mousavi-Pour, Schneider’s Caleb Ritzheimer, Goodwin’s Anna Chaurize from and McCleery’s Abel Varela.
