SD129 Gifted and Talented Philosophy:
The goal of programming for gifted and academically talented students in SD129 is to:
- Stimulate, challenge, and encourage them to achieve maximum growth for their personal development and society’s benefit.
- Enrich their experiences beyond what is offered by a regular standards-based curriculum.
- Provide a differentiated curriculum for gifted and talented students across all grade levels in each of the learning areas.
- Meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of the gifted and talented students.
Current Services:
Elementary
Clustering - Identified students are served using a cluster grouping service delivery model. Students are clustered in classrooms so that teachers are able to more effectively differentiate instruction. These students participate in enrichment activities, problem-based learning and select projects that enhance their learning. Enrichment activities are designed to be an extension of the existing curriculum and provide academic challenge.
4th and 5th Grade Enrichment Resource – Students receive daily pull out enrichment language arts using multiple genres, authentic literature, Shared Inquiry, and Latin root word study. This replaces their daily shared reading instruction in the regular classroom.

Middle School
At middle school, the program is called Enrichment for the Talented (ET). Identified students in the area of math are enrolled in an accelerated math class. Identified students in the area of reading are enrolled in language arts classes that offer shared inquiry and accelerated Latin word study. Identified students in other areas are cluster grouped. Cluster grouping has the same components as is listed for elementary students. Please click on the link below for a printable middle school ET brochure.
High School
Programming for identified high school students is addressed via Advanced Placement and honors level classes.
