August 2012



  • Washroom Accessibility Renovations at Jefferson, Washington & West High locker rooms as well as the main gym and stadium at West High.

  • District Wide Lighting Upgrades to remove and replace lighting fixtures with energy efficient fixtures in areas not previously upgraded. This is phase II of this project.

  • Smith Elementary School HVAC Upgrade which are estimated to save $40,300 annually on energy and maintenance. This will also provide the ability to offer summer programs there.

    Elementary School

  • Completed installation of electronic access control at all elementary schools

  • Repaved the road and bus loading area at Hope Wall and widened sidewalks to provide a safer loading area for students in wheelchairs. The entire project is being funded by a federal special education grant.

  • Begin construction of all-weather surface at West High School stadium, funded by community donations, to provide a quality educational space for physical education classes, band and athletics and to increase the ability for the field to be used by the community.

  • Completed building accessibility study with Dr. Steve Nourse and then completed some of the recommendations that do not incur significant costs

  • Implemented new bus safety steps, including student ID tags used by Kindergarten through 2nd grade students to help insure students are placed on the correct bus, additional phone lines and office help in transportation to improve communication with parents during the first week of school

  • Continue implementation of eSchool, our new student information system

  • Meet with each school principal and representatives from law enforcement and fire protection to review the school’s crisis plans and to identify areas needing improvement
