Project CRISS stands for CReating Independence through Student-owned Strategies and has been a school wide initiative since 2000. Over 200 teachers have been trained on how to incorporate learning strategies into classroom instruction. These strategies help students to be actively engaged in learning by reading, writing, and discussing.
The best thing about these strategies is that they don’t have to be teacher initiated. Once a student has internalized these strategies they will be able identify which strategies work for them and use them for their own learning.
This site is designed for you to help your student with some of these strategies when they are working at home. It will give insight into why the strategies work, some tips on how to use strategies, and examples of strategies common to certain content areas. Please look through all links of this site to find things that you and your student can work on at home.
