The Diversified Department serves students with special needs. These students may be placed in course that consist entirely of diversified students or may be placed in courses with both regular and special needs students. The decision for appropriate placement is made after conferencing with parents, professional educators and the student. Credit earned in Diversified courses leads to fulfillment of West High School’s graduation requirements.

DIVERSIFIED STUDY SKILLS RESOURCE: 1733
Open to: 9, 10 Length: Year course Credit: 1.0

This class is designed to provide resource and instructional support for the students with identified learning disabilities. The study skills curriculum covers the topics of goal setting, organizational strategies, test taking tips, notetaking and self-identification of learning strength and weaknesses.

NOTE: Diversified staff recommendation required.


RESOURCE STUDY HALL: 9341 (Fall) 9342 (Spring)
Open to: 9, 10, 11, 12 Length: Semester/year course Credit: None

This non-credit course may be scheduled in place of a lunch/study hall and provides academic support and structure for students not enrolled in other Resource courses. NOTE: Diversified staff recommendation required.


DIVERSIFIED INCENTIVE RESOURCE: 1723
Open to: 9, 10, 11, 12 Length: Year course Credit: 1.0

This resource class provides academic support and structure for students through a curriculum which focuses on recognition of individual learning styles and behaviors that interfere with learning. Topics include problem solving and study skills.

NOTE: Diversified staff recommendation required.
