Dear West Aurora Families:
Welcome to the beginning of another exciting year at West Aurora High School. It is an honor for me to serve as principal of this fine school. Together – students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, Board of Education, and community – we can make a positive difference in West High Community. I look forward to working with you as we continue to make West High a better place!
For those of you new to West Aurora High School, let me welcome you to a high school with a proud tradition of excellence and opportunity. I am confident you will find West Aurora High School offers many experiences for your student beyond the regular classroom setting. Please encourage your student to join a club or activity, participate in a fine arts program, or join one of our many athletic teams. Your student will find that the more he or she is involved at school, the more he or she will gain from West High.
Our success at West Aurora High School depends on your involvement. A continuing priority will be to build a stronger relationship between West Aurora High School and its parents, as well as the community. I encourage you and your family to stay involved in your teenagers’ school life. Communication and the home-school partnerships will be key ingredients to our improvement.
School improvement initiatives at West Aurora High School for the 2008-2009 school year will revolve around the implementation of the Revitalized Day/8 Period Day. When students return to school in August, their school day will be filled with new opportunities intended to help them be more successful academically and socially. With the addition of an eighth academic hour to the school day, West High students’ schedules will allow them to take a new class based on an interest or to receive academic support. All West High students will also have a fifteen minute small learning community session during their lunch hour. I am confident that students will find they have more opportunities to get support and that they are more connected to their school. Increased student achievement in all academic areas is our primary goal.
I am looking forward to working with you and your children. It is my hope that the 2008-2009 school year will be filled with many positive experiences. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions, concerns, or comments. I welcome your feedback. Thank you in advance for your participation in your student’s high school experience.
Sincerely,
Daniel M. Bridges
