|West Aurora Hosting Retreat for College-Bound Female Students July 27-28
West Aurora High School will host a two-day retreat for college-bound female students and their parents from 5-9 p.m. July 27, and from 8:45 a.m.-4 p.m. July 28 at 1201 W. New York St., Aurora.
The Lady Butterfly 2012 Sweet Retreat will impart wisdom and practical advice to young women heading off to their freshman year of college. The first year of college can be challenging and life changing. This two-day retreat will encourage and assist them in having a successful freshmen year that builds the foundation towards graduation. Workshop topics will include connections, influence, empowerment, safety and broadening their perspective about respect. Parents are also invited for a special component on tips and tools to help their daughter’s transition to college.
Katrina Boatright-Smith, a motivational speaker, experienced girls' mentor and community leader, will conduct the retreat. She graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics: Child Development and Family Relations. Boatright-Smith also was a varsity track and field athlete at ISU.
In Aurora, Boatright-Smith has owned a day care and pre-school with before- and after-school programs. She also has been a church youth leader, a lead case worker for a youth advocacy group and the co-pastor of a faith-based organization.
