  • What can I do if I can't get to the library to return my books?

You have two other options. First, if you are finished with the book you can return it at the Wigmam (where you get your textbooks) in the cafeteria. Second, if you still need the book, you can renew it online. (Click here to renew your books online.)

What if I don't have any money to pay my overdue fines?

We let students work in the library to pay off fines. You will be given a job to do, such as sorting books on carts, stamping cards, or dusting shelves. For each minute of work we will take off 10 cents from your fine. Working for 15 minutes will erase a fine of $1.50. If you want to take advantage of this offer see one of the librarians for a pass.

How can I come to the library during my study hall?

The library gives study hall passes after school and before school until the warning bell rings. Make sure you have your ID card with you. Students can come to the library from study hall two times per week. If you have gotten a study hall pass, go to your study hall first and have your study hall teacher sign your pass, then come to the library. When you arrive at the library put your pass in the brown box on the counter as you enter the library. You can then stay until the end of the hour.

Can I come to the library instead of going to lunch?

Yes. Just be in the library door by the time the lunch tardy bell rings. There is a sign-in book on the counter for lunch students. Be aware that no food or drink is allowed in the library.

Is the library open before school/after school?

The library opens at 7:25am. If you need to come in earlier we can give you a pass for as early as 7:00am. After school the library is usually open until at least 3:30pm. Sometimes after school meetings force us to close right away, but sometimes we have someone around until 4:00pm. It is best to check with Mrs. Hauge on a daily basis to see how late the library will be open.

How can I become a student assistant in the library?

Do you enjoy working with students, teachers, library books, and computers? If so, we would like to talk to you about being a student assistant in the library. You work during your study hall and there are several benefits including no fines for overdue books and occasional free snacks for work well done. You must be a sophomore and have a GPA of at least 2.0. See Mrs. Hauge or Mr. Fraser at the beginning of first or second semester if you are interested in joining our team.

What is Reading Counts! and how can I participate?

Remember Accelerated Reader from middle or elementary school? Reading Counts! is kind of like the high school version. Students read books and then take quizzes on computers in the library. Your English teacher may require you to read Reading Counts! books and take quizzes as part of you English class. Even if your English teacher does not require it, you may participate on your own. Simply pick out a book from the Reading Counts! section (pictured here) and when you are finished come back and we will show you how to take the quiz. If you pass the quiz, print out your results and we will enter you in a drawing. Periodically we draw a name from those that have passed quizzes. If your name is drawn you will win a prize like a T-shirt or gift certificates to fast food restaurants.

What does "price" mean on my overdue slip?

The "price" on your overdue slip is the cost of the book. It is not the amount of your fine. If you have lost the book the price tells you how much you have to pay.

If I have a fine or overdue book can I check out another book?

If you have a fine we usually ask for all or part of the money before you check out another book. If you have an overdue book we will probably renew the book and ask for all or part of the fine money. Once again, remember that you can work off your fines in the library if you can't or don't want to pay.

What do I do if I come to the library for a P.E. medical excuse?

Make sure you understand what your P.E. teacher expects of you. Are you supposed to go to P.E. first or come straight to the library? What is the assignment you are supposed to work on? Also, when you arrive in the library we have a special sign-in book for P.E. medical students. You must sign this book. We give it to the P.E. teaches to verify that you showed up at the library.

What if my printer at home won't work and my paper is due today?

There are a couple of ways we may be able to help. Try saving your file to a disk and bring it to the library first thing in the morning. If you are not using Microsoft Word, you may be able to save the file from your program as a Microsoft Word file. If not, we still may be able to get it printed.

You also might try emailing the document to your own email address (if you have email that you can check from any internet computer). At school we can then let you check your email and open and print your document. Again, this only works if you have web-based email (you go to a web site to get your mail).
