Board of Education

2025 Board Members

UPDATE: The SD129 Board of Education is no longer accepting letters of interest for the open Board of Education seat. The selection process is currently underway. Both the newly appointed and newly elected board members will be officially installed at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 5, 2025.

The West Aurora School District 129 Board of Education is now accepting letters of interest to fill a vacancy on the board. The selected appointee will serve the remainder of an unexpired term, beginning May 5, 2025, and ending in May of 2027.

In Illinois, including Kane County, school board members are unpaid in accordance with state law. Individuals interested in serving their community in this capacity may submit a letter of interest to Board Secretary Joy Engfer at jengfer@sd129.org between Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 16, at 4:00 PM. Applicants will receive a candidate questionnaire and additional information about the role of a board member.

Basic eligibility requirements apply, including age, residency, and voter registration. Details can be found in Board Policy 2:040 – Board Member Qualifications.

The vacancy follows the resignation of Board Member Thomas St. Jules, who stepped down after being appointed as an associate judge for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit. St. Jules, elected in 2019, shared in his resignation letter, “My time as a member of the West Aurora School District 129 Board of Education has been one of the most rewarding endeavors of my life, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have served with such dedicated people."
