All students who reside in West Aurora School District 129 who will be age 5 on or before September 1 of the current year are eligible to enroll in kindergarten.

Welcome to Kindergarten in West Aurora School District 129!

We are excited to welcome your family to this important first step in your child’s educational journey. In SD129, we are proud to offer both full-day and half-day kindergarten options to meet the diverse needs of our families.

All incoming kindergarten students are automatically enrolled in our full-day program, which provides a comprehensive learning experience designed to support strong academic growth as well as social-emotional development. Students enrolled in the half-day option will continue to receive focused instruction in math and literacy.

Families who are interested in exploring the half-day option are encouraged to contact our Registration Department directly to discuss next steps. We look forward to partnering with you to ensure your child has a confident, joyful, and successful start to school.

Please see the required steps below to register your student for kindergarten based on your situation.

New Families to West Aurora School District 129

This steps below are for registering a student for kindergarten and your family does not currently have a student enrolled in SD129.

Be prepared to submit the following documents by uploading them to the application. Applications will not be accepted until all necessary documents have been provided. Once the online application and document uploads are received by the district, you will be contacted by email stating the registration has been completed.

Students of families who complete this process by May 1st will be able to attend their *home school. Please note: Once enrolled, a student’s school placement may change based on language assessments or special education programming needs.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Student’s original birth certificate (uploaded copy)
Parent’s/Guardian’s valid drivers license/state identification card
Proof of Residency
- One of the Following:
  - Current Mortgage Statement
  - Current Lease
  - Current Real Estate Tax Bill
- Two of the following current utility statements (from within 60 days)
  - Waste
  - Water
  - Phone
  - Gas
  - Electric
  - Cable/Internet
Immunization records
Illinois State Transfer Form (if transferring from another Illinois public school)
Current I.E.P. or Section 504 Plan

Current SD129 Families – New Kindergartener (Did Not Attend a SD129 Preschool)

Since your family already has a student enrolled in SD129, but your incoming kindergartener did not attend preschool in the district, you will need to "Add a Student" by logging into your PowerSchool account:

Log in to PowerSchool using your email and password.
Click “Forgot Password” if needed.
Under “Choose Student,” click “Add Student.”
Complete the registration form.

Current SD129 Families – New Kindergartener (Attended a SD129 Preschool)

Your incoming kindergartener attended preschool in SD129 and will now move on to kindergarten.

New this year, some families qualify for auto-renewed registration for the 2026–27 school year. Families who qualify will simply need to communicate their intent to return by completing a short, 1-question form that can be found in the My Power Hub, beginning March 2nd. These families will receive an email and text message once the forms are ready.
Families who do not qualify for auto-renewal will receive a text message and email in early February, requesting updated proofs of residency to complete registration for their child(ren).
Completing this process by May 1 will guarantee enrollment at your child’s home school. Please note: Once enrolled, a student’s school placement may change based on language assessments or special education programming needs.
