IHSTF: Sweeney Todd!

The Illinois Theatre Association has announced the cast and crew of the 2017 All-State Production, Sweeny Todd at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival. Three West Aurora High School students – Dan Keller (’18), Megan Pawlak (’17), and Jake Ziman (’18) – were selected through a rigorous audition process that began in May. Dan will be playing the role of Tobias Ragg, Megan was selected as en ensemble member, and Jake was cast as Anthony Hope. Only one other high school in the state has this many students on stage in the All-State Production. Congratulations to these three students and their teachers!

West Aurora High School has a robust extracurricular drama program, producing three main stage shows and an evening of student-directed one act plays each year. While West High has never offered curricular courses in Theatre Arts, beginning in the 2016-2017 school year, the school will begin to offer curricular Theatre Arts courses as a Fine Arts credit.

the Illinois High School Theatre Festival (IHSTF) is the largest and oldest
non-competitive high school theatre festival in the world. The three-day Festival takes place every year
in early January, and switches locations between the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign and Illinois State University. Over 4,000 students, teachers,
university representatives, exhibitors, and volunteers come together to put on
over 25 different high school productions and over 150 workshops. Other highlights include college/university
auditions for high school seniors, professional development for teachers and
the All-State Production, featuring student cast, crew, and orchestra members
from across the state.
